Boy killed, brother injured in crossfire

RAWALPINDI, Dec 22: An eight-year-old boy was killed, and his 11-year-old brother was injured, in a crossfire between a fleeing suspect and the police in Banni area on Wednesday.
The incident happened during a random house-to-house search for suspects in the jurisdiction of Banni police.
Mohammad Hasnat, 8, and his elder brother Mohammad Qadeer, 11, both students of Educator Public school, were on way home from school when they were caught in the exchange of fire between a fleeing suspect and the police.
“Police had captured two suspects and were trying to arrest a third when he took flight, firing upon the police. Unfortunately, the bullets hit the two brothers coming from the opposite direction and as a result the little Hasnat was killed on the spot while his elder brother Qadeer suffered bullet injury in his leg,” inspector Khan Shabir told Dawn.
Mohammad Hanif, the father of the victim boys, who is a Khateeb at a local mosque and also associated with school as a teacher where his sons were studying, said it was yet to be ascertained who killed his son but “I have lost my loving son”.He said on hearing the news of his son’s death, he rushed to the Holy Family Hospital and found his loved one’s body lying there.
Later, the post-mortem of the deceased was carried out at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).
The superintendent of police, Zariat Kiani, said two of the culprits, both Afghan nationals, were captured by the police along with their pistols and masks. “It is being investigated whether they were planning a robbery or any other crime. However, a hunt has been launched for the escapee,” SP Kiani said.
